Tonight, I was abruptly reminded of several things that we left off of our list of things for which we are grateful last week.  Among them:

God’s watchcare protecting us from harm (as it suits His purpose)
West Virginia State Troopers
The American Automobile Association
Tow trucks
Interchangeable parts
Junk cars
Cellular phones
911
Air bags
Seat belts

After commuting daily along one of the most treacherous stretches of US 35 for more than ten uneventful years, the Jeep and I became very familiar with one of West Virginia’s most notable highway trademarks – the white-tailed deer.  Thanks to the first item on the list above (working by means of the last two items on the list), I am uninjured.

The Jeep, however, was less “blessed,” and thanks to the third and fourth items on the list will be spending the next few days (at least) at the local body shop.  The fifth and sixth items will hopefully result in a relatively speedy and affordable recovery for my most reliable means of transportation (especially during the winter months).

Finally, I am thankful for the second, seventh and eighth items on the list for facilitating all the communications and arrangements necessary between the time of the crash and sitting here at my computer now!

P.S.  I am acutely aware of the fact that the preceding message had nothing to do with Christ and culture.  I will resist the temptation to argue that deer, especially in regard to their interaction with large, moving assemblies of steel, plastic, glass and rubber that are smarter than they are, constitute a HUGE part of West Virginia culture.  I will merely assure you once again that I will continue this series regardless of the interruptions!

Thanks for your patience!
